Coach Scouting Notes

Power 4 Potential

Strengths

Marcus has the best arm talent I've seen in the 2027 class in the state of Florida. His ability to throw with anticipation — delivering the ball before the receiver breaks — is already at a college level. He has a quick release and exceptional touch on deep routes. His size at 6'3" with room to grow makes him a legitimate Power 5 prospect.

Areas for Development

Needs to improve his pocket mobility and learn to extend plays with his legs. Decision-making under pressure needs refinement — tends to force throws into tight windows when the pocket collapses. Footwork in the shotgun is solid but needs work under center.

Power 4 Potential

Strengths

Exceptional football IQ — Marcus diagnoses defenses at a level that is rare for a sophomore. He understands coverage rotations and adjusts his progressions accordingly. His 3.9 GPA reflects his mental approach to the game. He is a natural leader in the huddle and commands respect from teammates.

Areas for Development

Athleticism is functional but not a weapon at this stage. Needs to add lower body strength to improve pocket stability. Film study habits are excellent but needs to translate that into faster in-game processing when the play breaks down.

Power 4 Potential

Strengths

Marcus Johnson is the top QB prospect in the 2027 Florida class. His combination of arm talent, football intelligence, and size gives him a profile that Power 5 programs covet. His 3.9 GPA is a major asset — programs know he can handle the academic demands. He processes the field at an elite level for his age and his ball placement on intermediate routes is already college-ready.

Areas for Development

Mobility needs to develop — he is not yet a dual-threat QB and defenses at the next level will test his ability to escape pressure. Needs to develop a stronger off-platform throw. The mental game is elite but the physical tools need to catch up to his football IQ.
